People with bald spots, thinning hair or even completely bald should apply sunscreen on their scalp. This will protect the head's skin from the damaging UV lights of the sun. According to studies, the sun's harmful radiation can result to malignant melanoma or skin cancer. Take note that the scalp is the topmost part of the body. This means, that it gets most of the dangerous UVA and UVB rays. In this case, a hat is useful if not an even and thick application of sunscreen.
For scalp application, you can get the sunscreen with natural ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They usually provide a broad spectrum sun protection. This means, your scalp can be shielded from both UVA and UVB rays. You can get the sunblock spot sticks, and apply them on the exposed areas of the head. Such sticks glide easily on the scalp. Don't forget to include the ears. Be sure to get a high SPF like 45 or even 70. This will prevent any possible sunburn.
It is advisable that you should be able to apply a teaspoon on your scalp and ears, then another teaspoon for you face and neck. Remember to apply the sunblock 15-30 minutes before sun exposure, then reapply every two hours. Also, a hat is a must even if you are already wearing a sunscreen. Choose the one with wide brim around. A baseball or golf cap is not enough, since it will not protect the ears, neck and sides of the face. Consider the fabric of the hat when getting then. Be sure that it is tightly weaved. It should not allow the light to pass through. However, you can treat ordinary hats and caps with UV-blocker treatment product.
Always check your scalp, neck and ears for suspicious moles. Such moles can be protrusions that are asymmetrical with irregular borders and different colors.
